When I was a little girl, I loved the book Hatchet. I'd steal my dad's pocket knives and go exploring in the woods behind our house, rationing my food so I could "survive". I know that it is typically thought of as a "boy book", but this list is for all those who like wilderness survival. I tried to pick lesser-known titles, since most people are already familiar with books like Island of the Blue Dolphins or My Side of the Mountain. In no particular order...
1- The White Darkness,
by Geraldine McCaughrean.
When her uncle takes her on a dream trip to the Antarctic wilderness, Sym's obsession with Captain Oates and the doomed expedition becomes a reality as she herself is soon in a fight for her life in some the harshest terrain on the planet.
2- Overboard,

3- Peak,

That's funny about your "surviving" in the woods behind your house. Touching Spirit Bear sounds really good.
