In fact, his behavior is so off the wall that his teachers are threatening to send him to the special-ed center downtown.

My Thoughts I really couldn't stand this book. Regardless of the writing style or quality, it made me feel anxious and annoyed. I have worked with children who have untreated ADHD through Americorps, and it was definitely an adjustment. I ended up making lots of learning games that involved movement. It is far more frustrating to read about it, however. I don't really have a high tolerance for this type of story, with a too-fast pace and endless minor issues. I could really sympathize with the teachers about the fear for Joey's safety. I wouldn't have any problem suggesting this book to a reader, but I never want to read it again lol.  One thing to note is that it does have serious themes and red flags.  Joey's mother is an alcoholic and he mixes her "medicine" for her every night.  His grandmother also tries to make him climb into his fridge when he makes her angry.
